EPDM, Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is one of the many types of single ply roofing systems.
It is more commonly known as "rubber roofing", and is one of the most widely used roofing systems for low-slope buildings in Chicago, Northern Illinois, and Southern Wisconsin.
EPDM is a synthetic single-ply rubber membrane that offers excellent resistance to ultra violet rays,
thermal cycling, and damage from hail, ice and high winds. Any severe storm damage can be repaired
quickly and easily by an experienced EPDM roofing contractor. EPDM roofing membranes are available in black or white, and are manufactured in a variety of widths
ranging from 10 to 50 feet, and lengths ranging from 50 to 250 feet long. The membrane is also available
in a variety of thicknesses.
EPDM roofing systems are installed in one of three ways, fully adhered (fastened with adhesive),
mechanically attached (screwed) or ballasted (weighted down). The perimeter and seams of the roofing
system are sealed with a specially formulated tape. EPDM is one of the preferred choices of roofing architects, roof consultants and roofing contractors for
new building construction and replacement roofing projects.
